Lieutenant William Hope winning the Victoria Cross for rescuing a wounded brother officer under heavy fire during the assault on the Redan,18th June 1855 (Sevastopol). The painting depicts Lt. Hope VC coming to the aid of his adjutant Lt. Hobson who is laying badly wounded in an agricultural ditch.
